Speech & Language Therapy at Market Field College
At Market Field College we continue to support and develop the students’ communication skills in order that they can reach their full potential. We advocate a Total Communication approach so that visuals and other support are used to ensure that all students are able to understand and express themselves.
A speech and language therapist visits the College once a week to work with the students and provide support and training for College staff. In the sessions with the speech therapist students work on their social and pragmatic skills and practise strategies to help them cope with communication breakdowns. Students also have the opportunity to practise the skills needed for interviews and interacting with people at work with the ultimate aim of all students entering the work place. Programmes used are varied but include LEGO®-based Therapy, Social Use of Language Programme and St Catherine’s Interview Skills Training.
