Market Field College provides education for a range of students with moderate learning difficulties, including those with autistic spectrum needs, between the ages of 16 to 19.

The College offers a range of Foundation and Vocational Learning courses. Beyond the academic, our holistic curriculum is designed to develop each learner’s wellbeing and independence.

We aim to offer our students a continuing education which is appropriately matched to their learning needs. We wish to enable young people to develop the confidence and skills required to move on to the next phase of their lives; whether it is to further education and training, employment or working towards a happy, healthy and independent life.

Applications:

All applications will be considered using the following criteria:

• The young person concerned must have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
• The primary need specified in the EHCP should be: Moderate Learning difficulties or ASD.
• Where the EHCP includes social and emotional difficulties (SEMH), these needs are arising from the young person’s learning difficulties and not in addition to these.
• The College agrees that it can meet the needs of the student, as described within the EHCP.
• It is felt that the student will benefit from the provision and resources offered at MFC, particularly in terms of supporting meaningful progression towards preparing for adulthood and post 19 employment outcomes.
• Students should meet the minimum academic entry requirements for their chosen Pathway (e.g. entry level 1).
• Prior attainment should not exceed GCSE Grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 2.
• Market Field College is the student’s preference of post 16 provider; this criteria specifically concerns higher ability applicants with sufficient capacity to nominate a choice.
• Student behaviour is not deemed to be dangerous, putting themselves, other students or staff at risk.
• Students are able to regulate without a common need for physical intervention.

• Students should be able to independently manage their own personal care needs.

When applying the above criteria to individual applications, priority for placement will be given to:

• Pupils already attending Market Field School and who apply as part of their planned transition.
• Looked after children (LAC).
• Young people in the local catchment area.

Oversubscription

In circumstances where the number of applications exceed commissioned place numbers, where possible, the following over-subscription criteria will be applied to remaining place availability:

 

1. Young people who are ‘looked after’ who met the application deadline date and the entry criteria.
2. Young people who met the application deadline date and the entry criteria.
3. Young people who did not meet the entry deadline date but do meet the entry criteria.
